Leisure and culture

There is lots to see and do in the district as you will soon discover. From high culture to multi-activity leisure centres and fascinating heritage museums, to local events, festivals and parks and playgrounds, there's something for everyone.

Events

There's always plenty going on around Canterbury, Herne Bay and Whitstable, at local and district wide levels. Larger annual events include the Canterbury Eurofair, held in the Dane John Gardens in November, the Whitstable Oyster Festival in July and the Herne Bay Festival in August.

Access to good quality public open space can help to improve our physical and mental health by encouraging us to walk more, to play sport or simply to enjoy a green and natural environment. In addition to maintaining the district's parks and open spaces for everyone to enjoy, the council is responsible for wildlife areas, tree and shrub copse, field hedges and watercourses.
